Twelve Days

Twelve days,
They say,
Not just one.
I like that—
That the joys
Continue past the gifts
Of the first morning
And each day holds
Some reminder
Of true love.

I plan to look for it,
Eleven days more,
In the games and toys
And lights and parties,
In the family and friends
Who surround me—
I’ll watch for Christmas
Stretching its cheer.
